Skills Bootcamps are free*, flexible short courses giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer.
Skills Bootcamps are available to those who are unemployed, employed (looking to change career), and self-employed. Skills Bootcamps can be co-funded by employers to enable upskilling of employees. If you are employed and looking to upskill in your current role, please speak to your line manager about co-funding.
The programme is funded by the Department for Education and includes Skills Bootcamps in:

- Health and Social Care
- Digital
- Professional Services
Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life. Skills Bootcamps in Devon are lead by Devon County Council.
*Skills Bootcamps are free to individuals who wish to upskill and change career. Employers who wish to upskill their staff are expected to part-fund the cost of the training. Employed individuals who wish to use Skills Bootcamps to upskill in their current role should speak to their line managers about co-funding.
Eligible for this scheme?
Skills Bootcamps have been designed to help local people advance or pivot their skills into growing sectors in Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay.
To take part in the programme participants must:
- Be aged 19+
- Be living at a postcode within Devon, Plymouth or Torbay
- Be employed part-time or full-time, self-employed or unemployed, as well as adults returning to work after a break.
- Have the right to work in the UK
Please note:
- You can only undertake one Skills Bootcamp per funding year (Apr-Mar)
- If you have receiving benefits please contact your work coach about eligibility and travel expenses.
- For employed persons looking to elevate their current role, your employer contributes to the cost of training. The contribution depends on the size of the organisation, please contact us for more information.
